Kaiser Permanente promotes supplier diversity both within the organization and within our communities. We define diverse suppliers/service providers as small, and/or minority, women, LGBT, veteran, veteran disabled and disabled-owned businesses. Kaiser Permanente is a healthcare organization that subscribes to healthy eating as a foundation of our Total Health vision. Kaiser Permanente Healthy Picks program has the goal of improving the health of our members, employees, communities and the environment by increasing access to fresh, healthy food in and around our facilities.
Healthy Picks creates an environment that makes the healthy choice the easy choice. The Healthy Picks Program defines healthy food options in food venues throughout Kaiser Permanente, including patient menus, cafeteria, vending machines, catering, conferences, smart markets, food kiosks, coffee carts, gift shops and farmers markets.

Guidelines on Total Health at the Kaiser Permanente Farmers Markets
Kaiser Permanente is committed to supporting Total Health at its facility-based farmers markets. All farmers markets must meet the requirements outlined in these Guidelines. These Guidelines support our mission to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve, and our commitment to offer nutritious food and beverage options for our employees, members and communities.

Healthy Catering Program Vendor Tools
The tools listed below will guide you through the process of becoming a Healthy Picks-approved catering vendor. Kaiser Permanente’s goal is to make the healthy choice the easy choice. Our Catered Food Policy ensures that all our physicians and employees have healthy food options at Kaiser Permanente sponsored meetings, events, and celebrations. Food and beverages purchased with corporate funds should meet Kaiser Permanente’s Healthy Picks criteria, our evidence-based standards for excellent nutrition.

Healthy Picks Summary
The Healthy Picks criteria is Kaiser Permanente’s evidence-based standards for good nutrition. Healthy Picks emphasizes fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, healthy fats, and sustainable sourcing; with limits on calories, sodium, saturated fat, and sugar. All catering menu items must comply with the Healthy Picks criteria in order to be approved.
Healthy Picks Spreadsheet
This spreadsheet can help determine which menu items meet the Healthy Picks criteria. Simply enter in the menu item and fill in the appropriate cells to determine if it meets the criteria. If a green square appears after all the information is entered, then it qualifies as a Healthy Pick. If the menu item does not meet the criteria, a cell will turn red, identifying why it does not.
Healthy Dessert Ideas
Kaiser Permanente encourages fresh fruit for dessert as much as possible. However, if you are going to provide other dessert items, make sure they are healthy. This flyer has some ideas for desserts that all meet the Healthy Picks criteria.
Locally grown food that is sustainably farmed and produced is good for the environment and for people’s health. Source sustainable ingredients when feasible to support Kaiser Permanente’s 2025 vision of 100% sustainable food.
