The Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Program within Kaiser Permanente’s Procurement & Supply department is just one of the many ways that Kaiser Permanente seeks to deliver on our mission of Total Health – to promote positive environmental, human, and societal health outcomes for the communities in which we live, work, and serve. The program utilizes a variety of sourcing strategies, business forums, and disclosure mechanisms to uncover and capture opportunities throughout our supply chain that benefit the environment, human health, and our bottom line.  In 2010, the EPP program delivered projects that will result in $26 million in annual savings, over five million Kwh of energy conserved, 300 tons of plastic waste eliminated, and substantial reductions in consumption of hazardous metals and toxic chemicals. (These results will be updated once 2011 results are released.)
